DIY: Emerald Green Sew On Jewel ‘N Chain Necklace
I’m a little jealous of you guys with May birthdays. The emerald is one of my favorite stones and I’d LOVE for it to be my birthstone. Unfortunately those of us born in August were given the peridot, a less vibrant green that doesn’t look as good one me as an emerald does. What I want to know is who decided which month got which birthstone? I mean I would have been happy with the emerald, the diamond or even the ruby… but no one asked me!
Even though I can’t claim the emerald as my official stone, it’s still one of my absolute faves. I was excited when it was named Pantone Color of the Year and I was excited when I stumbled upon these oversized emerald sew on jewels. I knew I wanted to use them to craft a statement emerald necklace a la Liz Taylor (here).
Materials: Sew On Jewels (available here in many colors), Chain, Wire, Jump Ring, Lobster Claw
Slide your jewels onto a piece of wire that is about 6-8 inches long
Slide the end of the wire through the last link on your chain. Bend the wire over the link and wrap it back around the wire… like you’re twisting up the tie on a loaf of bread. Use a pair of pliers to remove any excess wire. Repeat on the opposite end of your wire.
To make a closure for the necklace, add the jump ring and lobster claw to your chain.
PS: Don’t forget to watch my latest installment of my new YouTube series Kristen, obviously! This week I’m talking about the bad habits from my 20s that I’m saying bye- bye to. Nothing to do with emeralds, but it’s still a good one. Watch here!
This is gorgeous! I know this doesn´t look anything like emeralds, except for being a (different) shade of green, but when it comes to green stones I also adore jades.

Nice job, it’s nearly *identical* to the one I posted on my blog last week! I love how DIY bloggers share the same brain sometimes lol! >> http://www.smartnsnazzy.com/2013/07/diy-rhinestone-statement-necklace.html
