DIY: Placemat Tote Bag

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote Making a tote bag out of two placemats… sure why not?! I spotted these ikat Threshold placemats at Target ($3 a piece in stores) and thought they’d make a perfect tote bag. Now that the weather is nice I’m always on the hunt for a bag to hold all my Summertime swag.

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote MATERIALS Materials: Two Placemats, Rope, Stapler, Four Grommets, Scissors

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote STAPLEPlace your two mats together so that the prints are facing each other. Use a heavy duty stapler to staple 3 of the 4 sides together. Obviously a quick hand stitch or a trip on the sewing machine will work, but  for those of us (like me!) with sewing machine skills a  stapler is a fancy alternative.

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote FLIPFlip your placemats right-side out

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote DRAWNow, use a marker to prep your bag for your grommets. I suggest about an inch away from the bags edge. Use your scissors to cut a hole big enough to slip your grommet through.

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote GROMMETUse your grommet setting tool to set your grommet in place. Grommet tools are so easy to use. A kit can be picked up at your local fabric store for a few dollars. Be sure to follow the directions that come with your kit, but if you (like me!) throw away your kit instructions and need a little assistance click here for a helpful video. Once you learn to use the grommet setting tool you’ll be putting holes in EVERYTHING!

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote HAMMERUse a hammer to place your grommets

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote KNOTTo make your handle, slip the rope through the grommet and double knot it to secure

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote KNOT OTHER Slip the other end of your rope through the opposite gormmet and repeat the knotting process

Glitter N Gue DIY No Sew Placemat Tote DETAILSNow stuff your bag full of your Summertime necessities.
