DIY: Ornament Earrings + Michael’s Craft Store Gift Card

Every girl loves receiving jewelry as a gift. For those of you who have been following my blog for a while I’m sure you remember when I did this post last season. Well I absolutely love those earrings and I have a few girls on my list they’d make great gifts for this year.

Materials: Tree Ornaments, Jump Rings, Buttons, Earring Post, E 6000, Nippers, Plyers

I think I have a button obsession

Use the nippers to remove the shanks form the back of the buttons. Use a dab of E6000 to add the earring post to the back of the button.

Since my button was gold, I changed the jump rings in the ornaments from silver to gold. I wanted them to match!

Viola! Statement earrings! No one would have ever guessed they use to be Christmas ornaments. My friend Sydne (read her blog Think Thru Fashion)  is all about fashion staples. She says that my fashion staple is a statement pair of earrings. I guess I’d have to agree with her. My everyday earring is always a pair of oversized hoops (al la Jennifer Lopez aka J.Lo aka Jenny from the block) and when I’m all dressed up for evening I’m usually wearing an oversize pair of earrings with bling on them. I guess it’s my thing. So I’m wondering…

Question: What’s your statement? What signature piece of clothing would your friends say you’re known for?

Maybe it’s a watch? Or maybe you’re the Queen of ballet flats? Or maybe you own 808 pairs of jeans? Leave your answer below. Contest ends tonight at 9pm pst and with the help of a fancy number generating system, a number will be selected. If your answer falls in the comment box that corresponds with the selected number…you win a $25 gift card to Michael’s Craft Store! Don’t worry if you don’t win today because we’re playing this game all week! Each day is a new DIY project, a new prize and a new chance to win. Trust me this project is so fun you might end up keeping it for yourself!

UPDATE: 9 was the randomly selected number!

Congrats Karen! You won the $25 gift card to Michael’s!

Scarves! One hot pink pashmina in particular. I think I was actually ahead of the curve… it was back in 2002, the fall of my junior year of high school. One day, I decided that I would wear my scarf all day, just because it looked pretty and I didn’t feel like taking it off. I got so many compliments and from then on, I was known for my scarves! To this day, I still feel slightly naked a scarf. My current favorite is an amazing tan and black scarf from Target with at least 5 different animals prints all mushed together.

Color is defiantly a way I make statements. When I go out, I’m usually pretty neutral with my dresses (blacks, browns, etc.) But I’l add a bright tank underneath, some chunky gold jewelry, or wear some bright makeup to spice it up.

I have to say its my headbands and fascinators. No matter what i am wearing, there is a headband to match. You can never have too many in my opinion. They make me feel dainty some days and demure and coture other days, but they are a definate expression of me.

I always add to them, but never take away . I have such a variety of style I don’t think my friends could describe my style because it is different everyday.

    December 7, 2011 at 3:28 pm

  57. At the moment, my friends know me for wearing my cowboy boots. They used to belong to my mom, who only wore them about 3 times. She gave them to me, and I wear them all the time – especially lately, I sprained my ankle almost 6 weeks ago, and had to wear one of those bionic boots. My cowboy boots were the only shoe that was close enough to the same height as my bionic boot. 🙂

I’m known for my nail polishes. As strange as it is, none of the girls at my work place wear nail polish so everybody is always intrigued by what color or color combinations I might wear. And my manicures aren’t even “special”, they’re very normal compare to what I see on the nailosphere:)

    Came across your blog (again)!!

I decided to answer this because it really got me thinking. I thought it would be my earrings~ I make them out of anything I can find: computer parts, trash, old CDs

But I asked myself~ What do people remember about you~?

It’s not a fashion accessory, but a “life” accessory~ after I lost my brother, I was given his Pigeon~ the one from the books~ Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus~ I vary him with me where ever I go, make him clothes~ That’s what people think of~
