DIY: Houndstooth Cape + Jo-Ann Fabrics Giveaway
One of my favorite DIYs from the summer was the Diana Ross inspired sequin beach cover up. With a quick fabric change the beach cover up is transformed into a fabulous Fall cape! It also makes a great gift for that fashion forward lady on your list…
Materials: 1 yard of Houndstooth fabric, 2 yards of leather trim, scissors
Fold your fabric in half. Then cut a “V” shape at the fold for your head to fit through. On the same front panel cut 2 slits in the middle of the fabric about a foot apart from each other. These slits will become the belt loops. Leave the back panel completely whole.
Loop the leather trim through the two belt slits in the front panel. Wrap the trim around your waist and back through the loops. 2 yards of trim should be enough to wrap the belt around you twice. Leave the back panel complete free. It’s officially become your superwoman cape!
It’s amazing what a yard of fabric can become! Even though I live in Los Angeles and it doesn’t get as cold in SoCal as it does in other parts of the country, I’m always excited about the season change. A change in weather means a change in wardrobe! I’m curious…

I love that cape and might have to make capes my favorite Fall trend.
I have always loved knitted shawls. I have a beautiful one that my sister knitted years ago and I have a couple that belonged to my mom that are over twenty five years old. Perhaps I enjoy them so much and wear them all the time once the cooler Fall weather begins because I feel close to the people I love when I wear them.

I LOVE patterned tights…I have fishnets with floral designs and fishnets with cheetah designs. They’re really cute with boots and very warm in the fall chill.

Boots! I wear them all season long with everything instead of trying to match shoes to my outfits. Also, nothing says fall/winter like wool for me. I’m glad I don’t itch much, because I love a wonderful wool, tweedy, chunky, knit, mohair, angora, cashmere, rabbit, alpaca sweater, skirt or jacket! So snugly.

Leopard print is my all time favorite trend. In my opinion it’s timeless! I just bought some houndstooth fabric from Jo Anns to DIY a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo pumps but I may do this cape instead. Great Job!

Favorite fall trend is definitely my mid-calf and knee-high boots! And the boots paired with long-ish chunky sweaters – totally comfy and stylish! Love this houndstooth cape – I will have to try it! Thanks for sharing all of your crafty wisdom:-)

Fall is my absolute favorite because I can bust out my drawerful of tights and start wearing them again with my boots! Tights are the perfect way to make a work outfit unique with a burst of color. I wear my tights so much I need to replace the colors almost every winter.

While I love my boots, the thing that always gets me jazzed about fall is cords. They come in such fabulous colors now so you can have all the warmth of corduroy plus fun pops of winter cheer!

I have and will always love opaque colored tights (there are many many pairs on my Christmas list). But I’m also happy that super sparkly party dresses seem to be back in. Of course, I have no use for sparkly party dresses, but seeing them in store windows makes me very happy.

My favorite fall fashions are trench coats, coats in general, sweaters, and jackets. I love keeping myself warm and healthy while looking stylish. My favorite fall item I own is my pink ruffle trench coat from Express. It’s like the average trench coat meets pretty in pink.
