DIY: Pillowcase + Scissors = Paper Bag Skirt

One of my favs Nicole Richie graced the cover of February’s Lucky magazine rocking a way cool purple Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti paper bag skirt from the Spring 2011 collection.

Paper bag skirts have been seen all over runways (Nina Ricci pictured above). The paper bag skirt, so called because the top looks like a scrunched paper bag, is the perfect flirty details for Spring.

Lay the pillowcase flat with the open end facing down. Cut about 2 -3 inches off the top. Use your scissors to cut along the closed seam and create a long strip of fabric that can be used as your belt.

Cut two 1 inch slits, about an inch apart from each other, to create loops. Repeat on the opposite side. Thread the long strip of fabric through the loops, pull tight and tie a bow to create your paper bag skirt!

    • I needed a little extra room too! I used a jersey pillow case I picked up at Target. It has stretch in it. Thank goodness for stretch! šŸ™‚
