DIY: Fringe Benefits

Fringe is one of the hottest trends for Fall. We’re seeing it on everything from boots to pants and even jackets.  Kate Moss, Kate Hudson and Ashley Tisdale  have all been seen hitting the street carrying their favorite fringe accessory … handbags.

For this project you’ll need a faux leather bag (I got this one for only $12 from H and M), an x-acto knife, a cutting board and about 12 yards of suede trim depending on the size of your bag. Cut the suede trim. Each piece should be about half a yard long.

Place the cutting board between the table and your bag. Then, simply cut a slit through your bag. It should be no bigger that 1/2 and inch long. Just big enough for you to push the suede fringe through. Make sure your slip goes through both sides of the bag.

Fold the suede trim in half and push it through the slit in your bag.  Slide the trim half way through the slit, then take the other end of the trim and pass it through the top opening. Pull to tighten and secure.

This same technique can be used to DIY pants and even boots. So be inspired, be creative and have fun!
